You Do Not Have to Service at the Dealer to Keep Your Warranty

This is the single most common worry Jamie gets asked about, and the answer is settled. Under Australian Consumer Law your new car warranty stays valid when the service is carried out by any qualified mechanic, to the manufacturer's schedule, using parts that meet the manufacturer's specification.

The ACCC has been explicit that a manufacturer cannot require you to service at their dealership to keep the warranty. What matters is that the right work is done at the right interval, with the right parts, and that it is recorded in your logbook. That is exactly what Jamie does, and he stamps the book when he is finished.

What Actually Happens in Your Driveway

A logbook service is a defined list of work, not a vague once-over. Here is how Jamie runs it.

Book a time
01

The Schedule Comes First

Jamie checks what your make and model calls for at your kilometres. A 15,000km service and a 100,000km service are very different jobs, and you only pay for the one you are actually due.

02

Parts You Choose

Oil, filters and any items due get quoted before the day. You pick OEM parts or quality aftermarket equivalents, and Jamie tells you plainly where the difference is worth paying for and where it is not.

03

Stamped and Handed Back

The work gets done, the book gets stamped and dated, and you get an itemised invoice. If Jamie spots something outside the service, he tells you and quotes it separately. He never just does it.

Logbook questions

What People Ask About Servicing

Not sure what your car is due for? Call Jamie and read him the number off the odometer.

Will a mobile logbook service void my new car warranty?

No. Under Australian Consumer Law any qualified mechanic can carry out and stamp your logbook servicing without affecting the manufacturer warranty, provided it follows the manufacturer's schedule and uses parts that meet their specification. Jamie works to that standard and documents it.

Do I have to use genuine parts?

You need parts that meet the manufacturer's specification, which is not the same as genuine-branded parts. Quality aftermarket filters and oils frequently meet or exceed spec. Jamie quotes both so you can decide, and notes on the invoice what was fitted.

What if my car is out of warranty?

Then you have more freedom, not less. Jamie still works to the schedule because it protects the car, but there is more room to prioritise what actually needs doing at that interval rather than replacing items purely because a book says so.

Can you service it at my work instead of home?

Yes, as long as there is safe space to work and the site allows it. Plenty of Jamie's servicing happens in workplace car parks while the owner is inside working. Mention it when you book so he can check the access.

How long does a service take?

It depends on the interval your car is due for. A minor service is a short job, a major one with extra items takes longer. Jamie gives you a realistic window when he quotes, so you are not guessing whether the car is free by lunchtime.
